ADA, LUNDAG SA HIWAGA

Benilde School of Arts, Culture, and Performance

Ada, once a carefree high school student, is suddenly unsettled by Maggie, a former close friend, after an incident that occurs during a seemingly harmless game. What begins as a minor conflict escalates into daily harassment, slowly eroding Ada’s self-worth. Torn between fear and resilience, she makes a defining choice—to flee. Drawn by a faint neigh in the distance, she discovers a glimmer of hope as she ventures into the mystical realm of Hiwaga. There, she embarks on a perilous journey filled with heartbreaks and trials, encountering peculiar yet familiar mythical beings who guide her toward self-discovery and inner strength.

The Bachelor of Performing Arts, Major in Dance, emphasizes a systematic and rigorous approach to dance training while cultivating a deep understanding of its historical and cultural contexts. Through workshops in dance techniques and courses in history, criticism, and pedagogy, students develop an appreciation for dance as a powerful medium of expression—one capable of reflecting culture and inspiring social change.

In this production, the School of Arts, Culture, and Performance (SACP) brings together multiple programs to collaborate and showcase their artistry in Ada, Lundag sa Hiwaga. The production’s title embodies the inherent responsibility of artists to create meaning within both local and global contexts through their participation in the arts, culture, and creative industries. This shared vision aligns with the Benildean commitment to providing transformative education that nurtures diverse creative talents.

The production design integrates a variety of visual elements that evoke the fleeting and abstract nature of time. Designers are granted artistic freedom to interpret this theme, blending somber and fantastical motifs. The visual narrative invites the audience to perceive and experience the temporal progression as it unfolds throughout the performance—immersing them in Ada’s journey across realms of reality and imagination.

The work highlighted texture, layering, and the subtleties of visual storytelling—details that may remain unnoticed yet profoundly shape the viewer’s experience. From symbolic object placements to the atmospheric use of patterned fabrics and furnishings, the production design helped anchor the characters’ larger-than-life silhouettes within their environments, creating a spectacle where costume and production design functioned as inseparable layers of the story.
